This page sets out what drives the imported price, so you can judge a quote on its merits rather than on its headline number.
The five things that move the price
- Shot weight in grams. The dominant cost driver. Resin is most of the ex-works cost, and two products that photograph identically can differ by 40% in weight.
- Resin grade. Virgin PP and HDPE cost more than regrind blends but hold impact strength and survive repeated washing. For cold-chain and outdoor use, regrind is a false economy.
- Mould cost. Standard sizes are already tooled. A custom dimension is a tooling charge or an amortisation across the first order.
- Container utilisation. Nestable and collapsible designs fill a 40HQ far better than rigid assembled ones. Freight per piece is where the real comparison happens.
- Additives and finish. UV stabiliser, flame retardant, matched colour and printing each add to unit cost.
Product by product
Plastic pallets
Pallet price follows deck design and load class. Solid-top hygienic pallets cost more than grid decks; steel-reinforced 3-runner pallets cost more again because of the inserts and the extra cycle time. The common mistake is buying a racking-rated pallet for floor storage. Establish what you need from plastic pallet sizes and dimensions, then confirm the rating in static, dynamic and racking load capacity.
Plastic crates and storage boxes

Waste bins and dustbins
Mechanism, not capacity, drives price. Pedal bins need a linkage; swing-top bins need a balanced lid; clinical waste bins add a seal and a foot pedal rated for repeated use. Housekeeping and hotel luggage trolleys
Frame material, shelf count, castor specification and knock-down construction are the drivers. Castors are the usual place a cheap quote cuts corners: wheel diameter, tread material and bearing type determine whether a trolley is quiet on a guest floor. Confirm the working load, not the marketing load.

From Karachi onward: what the invoice does not show
- Incoterm basis. FOB excludes ocean freight and insurance; CFR and CIF include them. Confirm which you are being quoted — the difference is frequently 8–15%.
- HS code. Plastic transport and packing articles are generally Chapter 39 (3923 for crates, boxes and similar; 3926 for other plastic articles). Your clearing agent must confirm the exact national tariff line, because duty is assessed against it.
- Duties and taxes. Customs duty, additional customs duty where applicable, sales tax, and income tax at import stage. These apply to assessed value, which the customs authority may determine independently of your invoice.
- Currency. PKR movement against the USD during the LC period is a real cost. Fix your LC and your supplier payment currency with the same horizon in mind.
- Port and inland. Karachi and Port Qasim handling, terminal charges, and inland transport to Lahore, Faisalabad or Islamabad.
Heat, dust and what it means for specification
Pakistan’s summer conditions punish under-specified plastics. Three specification choices matter more here than in a temperate market:
- UV stabilisation for anything outdoors. Unstabilised PP chalked and cracks within a season under direct sun. If bins, crates or pallets will stand outside — on a loading bay, a rooftop, a courtyard — specify UV-stabilised resin and say so on the enquiry.
- Impact grade for cold rooms. Food and pharma cold chains run well below ambient. Standard homopolymer PP becomes brittle at low temperature; a copolymer or HDPE blend is the correct call for freezer-adjacent handling.
- Castor specification for hard, dusty floors. Dust and grit destroy soft treads and open bearings. Sealed bearings and a tread matched to the actual floor surface cost a little more upfront and remove the most common warranty complaint on housekeeping trolleys.
None of these three change the external dimensions, which is exactly why they are easy to miss when two quotes look the same on paper. Put them in your enquiry so suppliers must price the same thing.
How to judge a quote properly
- Get the shot weight in grams from every supplier.
- Get the pieces per 40HQ. A lower unit price that ships fewer pieces is not cheaper landed.
- Get the resin grade named — “high quality plastic” is not a specification.
- Get castor and hinge ratings on anything with moving parts.
- Get the same Incoterm from all suppliers.

Yes. For a first order it is usually the sensible approach: one freight, one clearance, several lines tested. We will calculate the piece count per line.
How long does a first shipment take?

Do your products meet food-contact requirements?
Food-grade lines are produced in virgin PP/HDPE. Tell us the application — dry storage, hot filling, freezer — and we will specify the right grade rather than a generic one.
Why is a racking-rated pallet more expensive?
It has to hold its shape under beam loading over time, which requires more material in the right places and often steel reinforcement. If the pallet never leaves the floor, you do not need it.
